Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Our position
Kariya treats everyone who works with us fairly and on merit, whatever their age, disability, gender, gender identity, marital or family status, pregnancy, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. This applies to our employees and consultants, to the people we recruit, to our Board, and to the partners and study participants we work with.
How we work
Kariya is a small company that runs its development programmes through a core team and specialist partners. Much of our research is carried out with contract research organisations and laboratories, so a large part of this policy depends on working with partners who hold the same standards.
In practice
Recruitment and appointments. Roles and Board seats are filled on skills and experience, and we look beyond personal networks when we recruit.
Pay and terms. People doing comparable work are paid and contracted on comparable terms.
Working patterns. Flexible and remote working is available wherever the role allows, including for people with caring responsibilities.
Partners. We expect the contract research organisations and suppliers we work with to have their own equality policies and to comply with the law that applies to them.
Clinical research. Our trials aim to recruit participants who reflect the people living with the condition, with eligibility criteria set by scientific and safety need. People with lived experience are involved in study design, and results are shared with participants in plain language.
Raising concerns. Anyone can raise a concern about discrimination, harassment or unfair treatment with the Chief Executive Officer or, where the concern involves the Chief Executive Officer, with a member of the Board. Concerns are handled in confidence, and no one will be treated unfavourably for raising one in good faith.
Responsibility
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for this policy. The Board reviews it each year.
